How far does a nail have to penatrate to cause tetanus?

It's true. All it has to do is break the skin. It is blood-borne, so if it bleeds, it breeds.

Tetanus is exceedingly rare these days. Tetanus is not caused, tetanus IS. There are few such bacteria anywhere, and I am pretty sure that they are not even finding infected animals anymore. Oh well. Go get your shots if you have not had boosters, but your chances of getting something are very very low.

And why do people have this idea that tetanus is only spread by rusty nails and not papercuts or kitchen tools and vegetables?

You will be ok. Get the shots if you are very concerned. I wouldn't.How far does a nail have to penatrate to cause tetanus?
Ya, as soon as blood comes, you need to have tetanus.

And never let it go like that.

Always have an injection when something like this happens just to protect yourself. How far does a nail have to penatrate to cause tetanus?
Enough to break the skin and infect your blood. My husband got stuck with a small nail in his arm and we called the nurse who said to come in immediately for a T. shot. (it went in maybe 1/2 inch). Better safe than sorry... Good Luck!
